What you'll need
- Pavement sign, ideally Choupa's acrylic pavement sign
- Vinyl sticker(s) of your design
- A cleaning cloth & degreasing cleaner
- Squeegee (or a bank card)
- Scissors or craft knife
- Masking tape or painter’s tape
- Ruler
Clean the surface
Make sure the surface of your pavement sign is completely free of dust, dirt, and grease. Use a soft cloth and a degreasing cleaner.
👉 A clean board ensures better adhesion and long-lasting results.
Decide exactly where and how you want to place your sticker on the pavement sign.
If you want the sticker centered, use a measuring tape to check that there is an equal amount of space between the sticker and the edges of the sign on both sides. Do the same for the top and bottom.
Once you are satisfied with the position, temporarily secure the sticker in place with painter’s tape.
👉 Leave one corner or end of each strip of tape unattached, so you can easily remove it in the next steps.
Carefully make a small cut in the painter’s tape; gently enough not to damage the pavement sign. Fold the sticker back from that side while the other side remains taped securely to the board.
Slowly peel away the backing paper from the exposed side of the sticker.
👉 Try not to touch the adhesive side to avoid dust or fingerprints.
Slowly apply the sticker to the sign, working from top to bottom (or center outward). Use a squeegee or bank card to press the vinyl down firmly to prevent bubbles and ensure strong adhesion.
👉 The two sides of the painter’s tape should align perfectly to keep the sticker straight.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the opposite side of the sticker. Continue until all the backing paper is removed and the entire sticker is firmly attached to your pavement sign.
Once the vinyl is fully applied and pressed down, carefully peel away the transfer film at a sharp angle. Make sure the vinyl remains adhered to the surface.
Check the edges with the squeegee and remove any air bubbles. Tiny bubbles can be gently pushed out or pierced with a fine needle.
With these simple steps, you can easily place your own customized branding on your pavement sign, turning a plain board display into a powerful advertising tool. After all, without your message, a pavement sign has little purpose. Your vinyl stickers bring it to life.
